Parenting is hard work, the toughest job out there.
As parents we all have the best intentions, we all make mistakes.
The good news is research shows us it is NEVER TOO LATE to start parenting to facilitate secure attachment.
So, what is Secure Attachment and how can you do it?
Having a secure relationship with our children is about learning from our mistakes rather than striving to get it right. After all, our kids will learn from their mistakes from learning from ours.
A securely attached child is a happy, trusting and confident one who feels safe and supported to explore their world and feels welcomed and delighted in when they come back to the safety you provide them. Circle of Security refer to this as going out on the top of the circle and coming back in on the bottom of the circle.
Secure children:
Have higher self-esteem and are kinder to those around them.
They get along better with their brothers and sisters.
They calm down quicker from tantrums and can manage their emotions.
They turn to their parents for help and are confident exploring their world.
Secure caregivers
Are Bigger, Stronger, Wiser and Kind.
Know how to follow their child whenever they can and take charge when necessary.
Support their children exploring and support them to return and “fill their emotional cup” as they need to.
Helps their children to identify and talk about their feelings and "be with" their children when they have big emotions.
Circle of Security® Parenting™ (COS-P)
Circle of Security Parenting is being “Good Enough": there is no such thing as a "perfect parent”.
When we can be with our children and take delight in them FOR WHO THEY ARE NOT WHAT THEY DO, they feel loved and valued. Circle of Security Parenting ™ gives parents the roadmap to creating a relationship with their child that will benefit them their whole life".

The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
At times as parents, we all feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you.
Circle of Security® Parenting™ guides you through new ways to understand and respond to your child’s behaviour. The program was developed to help you notice ways to connect with your children. The focus is on supporting safe, responsive and protective relationships between children and the people that care for them.
Each week you will learn to:
Increase your understanding of your child by learning about their emotional needs.
Support your child’s ability to successfully manage their emotions.
Support the development of your child’s self-esteem.
A compassionate, no-blame approach allows parents to feel supported, regardless of their personal and parenting history. Each week, you will view video content and there will be group discussions to explore your thoughts and beliefs about parenting and children. You will reflect on:
Your experience of parenting
Your experience of being parented
How your partner’s experiences might be different from yours, and
How your child’s experience might be different from yours
The program is designed for caregivers (parents, foster parents, legal guardians, grandparents) of children aged 6 months to 8 years. However, as our need for secure relationships remains throughout the lifespan, parents and caregivers of all aged children will benefit from attending. Circle of Security has been adapted for older children and even teenagers, so no matter the age of your child/ren, it is never too late to learn Circle of Security.
CoS-P can be completed 1:1, as a couple, or in a small group.
Face-to-face delivery is recommended however Samantha can facilitate the course online.
Attending a Group
This is a psycho-educational group and not psychotherapy.
Group rules and expectations will be outlined and agreed upon by all at the onset of the program.
You will only be invited to share with the group if you feel comfortable.
If you feel you need further support beyond what the group can offer I can provide you with referral options for individual or couples support.
Can My Partner & I Do The Program Together?
ABSOLUTELY! It is perfect when all parents / caregivers do the Circle of Security Parenting™ course. Being on the same page with strategies and a new way of seeing the struggles of parenting with your parenting partners makes family life much easier. If both parents would like to attend a group there is a 50% Discount for 1 parent. Please contact me for this option.
Do I need to attend every Circle of Security Parenting session?
Attendance at each session is required to get the full benefits and receive a certificate. This is because the content, learning and concepts are built and expanded on at each session across the 7 weeks.
Can I Bring my Baby / Child
Unfortunately there are no creche facilities available. To ensue that you can get the most out of the course and have some time to "fill your cup" please arrange for childcare while you complete the course.
What if I don’t have regular contact with my child?
A significant part of Circle of Security Parenting is reflective group discussion. Each week between sessions, you will be asked to observe your child’s behavior and your own responses and interactions with your child, then reflect on what you have learned. It is possible for you to gain skills, knowledge and confidence by being part of this program if you do not have regular contact with your child/ren. However, we encourage you to discuss your family situation before enrolling to find out whether this group is the best fit for you.
